Lord Of The Sky earns spell on TJ heroics

Tuesday 7 April 2015, 2:02pm

Robbie Laing is in favour of giving Lord Of The Sky a break from racing after the sprinter's brave second to Chautauqua in the TJ Smith Stakes.

Lord Of The Sky appreciated the wet conditions at Randwick on Monday when run down in the final strides by Chautauqua in a career-best run.

Laing said it would be easy to press on to Brisbane chasing big prize money but a sensible approach would be to give the horse a rest.

"The worst thing I can do now is panic and throw him in something for the sake of it," Laing said.

"I might bring him home and go to the Sir John Monash, the Bletchingly and go to where I was going to go last year and really have a go at the Memsie."

Lord Of The Sky won the Sir John Monash at Caulfield in July before running fourth in the Bletchingly Stakes two weeks later but didn't make it to the Memsie Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield in August.

Laing said the four-year-old had pulled up in good order from Monday's run after treating him as an asthmatic following his fading 11th in the Oakleigh Plate in February.

He said the son of Danerich had sometimes shown a poor post-race recovery from his races.

"He's a mad runner. He races himself into the ground and needs his lungs working at 100 per cent," Laing said.
