Lankan Rupee has come out of his unplaced Newmarket Handicap run with a couple of issues but they are not expected to affect his defence of the TJ Smith Stakes.

"He has a torn, superficial off-front pectoral muscle and some stifle inflammation," trainer Mick Price said.

The injuries were discovered on Monday morning when a chiropractor examined the five-time Group One winner, two days after he was beaten more than four lengths when sixth in the Newmarket Handicap won by Brazen Beau.

"He did not run the race out, obviously, and while he seemed to vet up OK on Sunday morning the chiropractor's report was more detailed," Price said.

The trainer said there was enough time for the chest and leg problems to be treated before the Group One TJ Smith at Randwick on April 4.

"All roads lead to the TJ Smith," Price said.

The reigning Australian Horse of the Year was attempting to win Saturday's Newmarket at Flemington for the second time and had topweight of 58.5kg.

Lankan Rupee's stablemate Ready For Victory will have a clockwise work-out on Tuesday ahead of his trip to Sydney a day later for the Golden Slipper.

A debut winner at Flemington last Saturday week, Ready For Victory will attempt to become the first horse to win the $3.5 million Golden Slipper at its second start.

The colt worked right-handed at Caulfield on Saturday with the Clinton McDonald-trained three-year-old Tahni Dancer.

Price said Ibrahim Gundogdu, who rode Ready For Victory in the gallop, gave a positive report.

"He said the horse used himself well and led with the correct lead leg. So that part seemed all right," the trainer said.

Price is aware the colt faces a tough challenge in the Slipper.

"It's a difficult ask but if you don't ask, you don't get," he said.
