NSW domination to continue with Aghamore

Thursday 12 February 2015, 12:30pm

Newcastle gelding Aghamore is set to continue a NSW plunder of Brisbane races at Doomben on Saturday.

Country NSW trainers have made regular winning visits to Brisbane in the past 12 months and while Aghamore has been a consistent performer in Sydney, trainer Todd Howlett believes he is better placed to make his mark in Queensland's open-handicap class.

Aghamore, which contests the Gallopers Membership Handicap, won at Warwick Farm two start back and then finished an unlucky fifth to Oxford Poet at Rosehill two weeks ago.

Howlett has campaigned in Queensland with Star Of Octagonal who was unplaced in Sincero's 2011 Stradbroke Handicap.

He believes Aghamore will be suited by Brisbane racing because he will drop in weight.

"It is tough to win a Saturday race in Sydney. Don't get me wrong it is also tough to win in Brisbane as well but it is probably just a little bit easier up there," Howlett said.

Howlett said the threat of more rain in Brisbane wasn't a concern for Aghamore.

"He has won on heavy going but most of his wins were on good surfaces," he said.
