Geegees Goldengirl has provided trainer Stuart Gandy with his biggest win as the filly powered to victory in the Listed Strutt Stakes at Hobart.
Gandy runs the stud for Tasmania's biggest owners and breeders, Paul and Elizabeth Geard. He also trains many horses for them.
He said Geegees Goldengirl's victory as the $3.90 favourite in Monday's was a satisfying moment.
"She deserved today," Gandy, 32, said.
"Winning races like this for Paul and Elizabeth means the world."
Geegees Goldengirl, a half-sister to Geegees Blackflash, had been placed in three stakes races including the Tasmanian Guineas and Hobart Guineas in her past two starts but broke throught for her first stakes win.
"She was the best horse in the field today and won like the best horse," Gandy said.
"Everything she has done she has done on ability. She's always raced against the best here and she's come out today and proved she's well up to them."
Gandy was worried 1600m might be the filly's best distance but after settling in behind the lead she burst through strongly in the straight to defeat Shayana with the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Marocan Diva third.
Geegees Goldengirl, who is by the Geard's stallion Wordsmith, will head to the Tasmanian Oaks for her next start.
