Williams lands first for Waller

Saturday 20 December 2014, 3:39pm

Craig Williams celebrated his first winner for the Chris Waller stable when Bascule scored at Flemington on Saturday.

It was Williams' second "first" in a matter of 24 hours after landing his initial win for Godolphin at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Williams, who has only had a handful of rides for Sydney's premier trainer Waller, settled back in the field on Bascule, who came with a well-timed run to win by 1-1/4 lengths in the Primacy Hcp (1420m).

The hoop admitted he didn't have too many options from the poor draw on Bascule and he was pleased with the way the colt attacked the line to score his third straight win.

"He was very impressive today," Williams said.

"The most important thing was that he raced really kind and tracked really well.

"He's got a very good future the way he won."

Brian McGrath, representing the Waller stable said Bascule was starting to put together a nice profile and expected the colt to stay in Melbourne.

Waller sent the colt to Melbourne last month, but a bad blood picture resulted in the three-year-old having a delayed start to his campaign.

"There's some other nice benchmark races that will suit him down here," McGrath said.

"Chris usually keeps them down here if they're doing well and he's been doing well down here."
