Schockemohle bound for jumps racing

Saturday 18 June 2016, 2:00pm

Seven-year-old Schockemohle is bound for a new phase of his career over jumps, but has added a sixth career win on the flat with success at Moonee Valley.

Trainer Brett Scott, a former top jumps jockey, said since they've ramped up Schockemohle's schooling over obstacles this year in training it has had a positive impact for the gelding.

Schockemohle was sent out a $6 chance in Saturday's Pantry Packer Handicap (2040m).

After jockey Michael Walker was able to get an easy run in front, the gelding kicked clear rounding the home turn and held a 3-1/2 length margin over runner-up Black Stardom ($9.50) on the finish line.

King Way ($3.60 favourite) came in another three quarters of a length away.

"I'm absolutely rapt," Scott said, with Schockemohle registering his first win since November 2014.

"He's a pretty happy chap at the moment. The jumping has really lifted him up, and Michael has ridden him a treat today."

Schockemohle is scheduled to make his hurdle debut at Bendigo on July 24.

He had a jumps trial at Cranbourne last month and will return there to complete his qualification in another trial.

"He goes to Cranbourne on Tuesday and gets the final part of his jumping ticket and he'll have another flat run then we'll see him run in the maiden hurdle on Mosstrooper Steeplechase day at Bendigo," Scott said.

"He jumps great. He loves it."
