Con and Tony Karakatsanis found guilty

Tuesday 22 January 2013, 1:27pm

Sydney trainer Con Karakatsanis and his father Tony have been found guilty of breaching raceday protocols during last year's Melbourne spring carnival.

A Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board handed down its finding on Tuesday in their absence after final submissions were heard on Monday.

Karakatsanis and his father were charged after a covert stewards' operation was prompted by a tip-off.

During the operation, stewards found a bag containing tubing equipment in a stall occupied by the stakes-winning sprinter Howmuchdoyouloveme.

Howmuchdoyoulove was one of the favourites for the Group Two Yellowglen Stakes during the opening meeting of the Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington.

The horse ran as the $3.10 favourite before finishing eighth in a field of 12.

Penalties for Karakatsanis and his father will be decided next week.
