Nothing To Lose is Proven

Tuesday 22 January 2013, 12:47pm

Nothing To Lose is the ultra consistent stallion who just keeps producing winners. It is well documented that Nothing To Lose has only had limited runners due to his stud career commencing at the height of the Equine influenza outbreak in 2007 however despite this, his results and statistics are outstanding. With only 35 horses to race he has had 14 winners and 2 stakes-performers (see below).

One of Nothing To Lose’s most consistent winners is the Matthew Dunn trained Epic Terra who took out the feature race at Ballina yesterday in the Iris Nelson Memorial Handicap. Epic Terra was backing up off a very tough win at the Gold Coast on New Year’s Day and improved his record to 14 starts, 4 wins, 4 seconds, 3 thirds and prizemoney now exceeding $100k. Other recent winners for Nothing To Lose include, Itchintowin who scored at Ipswich earlier this month and Yup Yup Digby who won on debut at the back end of last year.

It should also be reported that Lose It (Nothing To Lose ex Maroon Roses), now known as Military Command, has settled in well in Hong Kong for his new trainer Andreas Shutz. Lose It was purchased by Hong Kong interests for a six figure sum and is being targeted at the Hong Kong Derby in March of this year. Lose It’s last start in Australia was in the Grafton Guineas of which he won and that was also his third win in succession. Prior to leaving Australia late last year, his record stood at 5 starts, 3 wins and a 1 second.

Shutz in no stranger to training Derby winners, he was champion trainer in Germany on four occasions and he has won the German Derby five times and the same number of German Oaks. He has won more than 80 stakes races worldwide, including several G1s most notably via Samum, Caitano, Borgia, Elle Danzig, Dai Jin, Robertico, Waky Nao, and Epalo, the 2004 World Racing Championship winner. He guided superstar G1 winner and Horse of the Year Good Ba Ba to the first two of his three G1 Hong Kong Miles. Schutz trained 28 winners in 2011/12 for an overall total in Hong Kong of 130.
