Zelady's Night Out enters Millions picture

The Magic Millions Classic puzzle has started to take shape after top trainer Tony Gollan unveiled his brilliant filly Zelady's Night Out at Doomben.

Sent out favourite, Zelady's Night Out ($2.40) showed she was a major player for the $2 million Classic on January 9 with a 4-1/4 length win over Rainy Day Woman ($7.50) in the 4-Game Plan Membership Handicap (1050m) on Saturday.

Gollan said Zelady's Night Out would follow the traditional path to the Magic Millions via the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1000m) at Doomben on December 12.

"She will then run in the Bruce McLachlan Stakes which will be the perfect lead-up because it is at the Gold Coast this year and will give her a look at the track," Gollan said.

Zelady's Night Out cost $65,000 and is a half-sister to the handy gallopers Excites Zelady, I Am Zelady and Comprende.

"She has shown us plenty right from the start. As you saw she can be a little stirred up before going into the barriers but she can really fly the gates," Gollan said.

"The good thing is she jumped lengths in front but then came back under Jim (jockey Byrne) and relaxed beautifully."

"She really appeals as an ideal Magic Millions horse although I think eventually she will get out to 1400 metres.

The other plus is showed today she could handle a wet track."

Doomben was downgraded to a soft seven rating before the first race after heavy morning rain but Zelady's Night Out clocked 1min01.12secs which was only 0.5secs outside the class record.

Jockey Sam Payne said Rainy Day Woman had tried hard but was never going to catch the winner.

Entevee Queen ($4.20) finished third, a half head behind Rain Day Woman and her jockey James Orman said she would be better at 1200m.
