Chance To Dance leads in Williams quinella

Saturday 5 September 2015, 3:14pm

Two Irish-bred gallopers have provided owner Lloyd Williams with a quinella at Moonee Valley with the outsider of the pair winning.

Chance To Dance was headed by stablemate The United States in the Craig Opie Cup before fighting back to score on Saturday.

Ridden by Craig Williams, Chance To Dance met with support, firming from $21 to $17, before scoring a short-head win from The United States ($5) with Abbasso ($9) 1-3/4 lengths away third.

Chance To Dance isn't among nominations for this year's Caulfield and Melbourne Cups while The United States holds an entry in both races with his rider Damian Lane blaming a wide run for defeat.

Williams said he was instructed to be positive on the Chance To Dance.

"They went really fast and I was a little bit worried that he would be vulnereable late because of the early pressure," the jockey said.

"The United States had me just after straightening but to his credit he hit the line.

"He is a horse that fits into a few different categories and will improve as the distances get longer.

"It gives me a big thrill to win in these colours."
