James Orman brings up early Doomben double

Saturday 5 September 2015, 2:33pm

Trainer Brian Smith predicted bright futures for both apprentice James Orman and galloper Lock's Legend after they combined to win at Doomben on Saturday.

Lock's Legend made it four wins from his past six starts when he strolled home to win the Pure Jali Handicap (1600m).

Smith said he was proud of the way Lock's Legend had developed into a horse who could get over 1600m or further.

"He has come a long way from being a 1000-metre horse a few months ago. In fact I am considering backing him up in the 2000-metre open race next week," Smith said.

"As for James (Orman) he has come a long way as well and I reckon he has an equally bright future."

Orman completed a double on Lock's Legend after earlier winning on Nardoo and shot to the lead in the Brisbane jockeys' premiership with 10 winners for the season.

Meanwhile, New Zealand trainer Graeme Boyd celebrated his decision to apply for a Queensland trainer's licence when Walhaan ($5.50) won the Madison Cleaning Handicap.

"He is a nice little horse and we can space his runs," said Boyd, who had considerable success with Tattersall's Cup winner Ginga Dude in Queensland several years ago.
