Manageress takes out Rivette Series Final

Saturday 11 July 2015, 4:22pm

A barnstorming finish from the Colin and Cindy Alderson-trained Manageress has foiled Luke Oliver's hopes for a winning double on Finals Day at Flemington.

Oliver prepared Jessy Belle to win the Leilani Series Final earlier in the day and had favourite Kansas Sunflower in the Rivette Series Final (1600m).

Craig Williams, fresh from riding an early treble on Saturday's program, positioned Kansas Sunflower outside the leader and the favourite strode to the front in the straight.

Kansas Sunflower looked set to give Oliver a black-type double when he opened a two-length break inside the final 200m before Chris Parnham on Manageress charged down the outside to nab him.

Manageress ($7.50) scored by three-quarters of a length with 1-1/2 lengths to third-placed Penny To Sell.

"I had to ride her for a bit of luck and fortunately enough we got it," Parnham said.

"She's been racing well without winning and has been pretty unlucky her last couple.

"It's good to get her over the line first today and she really deserved it.

"At the 100 metre mark I wasn't sure she was going to get there but to her credit she really stretched out nicely."

Kansas Sunflower conceded Manageress 4.5kg and Oliver felt his horse's 60kg topweight was the difference at the finish.
