Escado heads Queensland Cup entries

Tuesday 30 June 2015, 6:42am

There will be a small field for the Listed Queensland Cup, one of the few stakes races left over the Melbourne Cup distance of 3200 metres.

Just 11 horses have been entered for Saturday's race which is being held this year at the Sunshine Coast.

Heading the nominations is 2013 South Australian Derby winner Escado, winner of the recent Tattersall's Cup at the Gold Coast.

Newcastle mare Lovethebeaches, a five-length winner of the Stayers' Cup (3200m) at Randwick on June 6, will make the trip north.

Lovethebeaches cleared out by around 25 lengths mid-race in her Randwick win, prompting stewards to question Paul King's fellow jockeys as to their tactics.

King will once again ride the Steve Hodge-trained mare.
