Mick Mair's stakes hopes rest with filly

Thursday 11 June 2015, 12:16pm

Mick Mair has lost the most promising horse in his stable with the sale of The Wildman to Hong Kong interests but he has a handy back-up in filly Mywayorthehighway.

Mywayorthehighway will contest the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich on Saturday when she will bid for her second stakes win.

The three-year-old claimed the Group Three Vo Rogue Plate at the Gold Coast in January and indicated she was nearing a return to her best form with a last-start fifth in the Queensland Day Handicap at Doomben two weeks ago.

Mywayorthehighway, a $16 chance for Saturday's race, was the last horse chosen by the late race caller Wayne Wilson and she is raced by a syndicate which includes Wilson's wife Sally.

"Wayne liked the look of this filly and it is great she is racing so well," Sally Wilson said.

Owner-breeder Neville Bell has confirmed juvenile The Wildman, a winner of two of his six starts, has run his last race in Australia after being sold to Hong Kong interests for an undisclosed sum.

Bell stands The Wildman's sire Champions Gallery and is hoping to get some international exposure from two-year-old's efforts overseas.

"It will be interesting to follow his career in Hong Kong and he should be the right type of horse for their racing," Bell said.
