Shane Fliedner has booked in annual leave for himself and his promising three-year-old after Flemington on Saturday.

Setinum is one of the favourites for the Heather Howes Handicap, a race Fliedner has planned as an autumn swan song for the three-year-old.

"We've kept him for this race and then he can have a month off and get ready for the spring," Fliedner said.

"It's all about trying to time it right with him.

"He's a terrible horse in the paddock as he doesn't do well, but you need to get them into it at some stage to give them a little break as they can't keep going."

Fliedner's plans for break away from the Melbourne racing scene include a trip to Singapore.

A Bendigo winner in March, Setinum ran third at Flemington over 1400m on April 11 before running fourth to Fontein Ruby at Caulfield over 1600m a week later.

Fliedner hopes Setinum can grow to make improvement during his break to give himself a shot at better races in the spring.

"He's shown me that he is up to nice class but he hasn't shown it on the racetrack as yet," Fliedner said.

"He's still a work in progress but like most owners and trainers you hope they can find another two lengths, and that is all he probably needs."
