Delectation wins in front of owner

Saturday 11 April 2015, 2:45pm

Having spent most of his three-year-old season in the shadow of his Group One-winning stablemate Brazen Beau, Delectation has finally had a deserved win at Randwick.

And the lucky charm may well have been the presence of his Macau-based owner, CC Lai, who was at Randwick on Saturday to witness the gelding's first win for almost a year.

A three-time winner at two, Delectation ran second to Brazen Beau in the Coolmore Stud Stakes in the spring and was left in his wake in last month's Newmarket Handicap.

His trainer, Chris Waller, has always believed in his talent and was thrilled to stand with the owner and cheer Delectation home in the Group Two Arrowfield Sprint (1200m).

"It is wonderful for me to be here with Mr Lai to see him win," Waller said.

"We have tried to stretch him up over further but I think 1200 metres is his distance.

"That restricts us a bit looking ahead to Brisbane but I won't say no. We will look at it."

Kuro was sent out the $2.45 favourite but after jumping well and leading early, was one of the first beaten.

Delectation ($8.50) and Bring Me The Maid ($8) made their runs together from the back of the field and on the line there was just a nose between the pair.

Rekindled Power ($20) was another to come from behind, finishing three-quarters of a length third.

Delectation has had a habit of not settling as well as he should, and Waller paid tribute to his jockey, Hugh Bowman.

"He is a difficult horse but full credit to Hugh Bowman. He is an accomplished horseman and he made this horse look easy today," Waller said.

"He has been a very frustrating horse, to say the least, but the pacifiers have helped."
