Bonaria saved for Flemington G3 hat-trick

Wednesday 11 March 2015, 4:01pm

Bonaria, no stranger to feature-race success at Flemington, will return to the track on Saturday chasing a hat-trick of wins in the Schweppervescence Trophy.

Bonaria was nominated for Saturday's Group One Coolmore Classic in Sydney but the Myer Classic winner has been kept in Melbourne for the 1600-metre Group Three race.

"We're taking the easier option," trainer Pat Hyland said.

"If she wins on Saturday or runs a super race we probably could go up to Sydney for either the Doncaster or the Queen Of The Turf Stakes."

Bonaria has won four of her five starts over the Flemington 1600-metre course, including the Group One Myer Classic last spring.

Hyland has been pleased with Bonaria's two runs this campaign at Caulfield.

But a return to headquarters gives Bonaria an undeniable chance to add another stakes to her record before she bows out of racing at the end of the season.

Hyland also has a chance in the Group Two VRC Sires' Produce Stakes in Gredington which has winkers on for the first time.

"It just might make him concentrate a bit more in the early part of the race," Hyland said.

Gredington, a debut winner at Cranbourne, found the line well from last to finish midfield in the Blue Diamond Prelude.

He has since ran on for second to Queen Of Wands under a big weight over 1300m at Sandown.
