Kavanagh makes big plans for Centre Pivot

Saturday 7 February 2015, 2:45pm

Centre Pivot's win at Rosehill has brought some cheer to the Sam Kavanagh stable which is still feeling the loss of stayer Midsummer Sun.

The dual Gosford Cup winner was euthanised this week after breaking down during a barrier trial.

Kavanagh plans to give Centre Pivot his chance in the better spring races after he proved himself over 2000m on Saturday.

"It's been a tough week and it's nice to have a horse like this," Kavanagh said.

"Now that he's done what he's done over 2000 metres we might look at the Parramatta Cup in two weeks.

"The other option is to give him a spell now and get him ready for the spring and see where he sits."

Centre Pivot went into the Hyland Race Colours benchmark 95 with three wins from his previous four starts.

Punters stuck with him, sending him out at $1.65, and he returned their faith with a half-length win over pacesetter Black Jag ($17).

Koroibete, who scored an all-the-way win last time out, finished third, another 2-1/4 lengths away.

Kavanagh said he would discuss spring plans with Centre Pivot's owners Segenhoe and Gerry Harvey.

"I don't think we have got to the bottom of him yet," he said.

"He will be nominated for the Metropolitan and the Caulfield Cup and start off in a race like the Naturalism.

"If he doesn't measure up we can back off and go to the Magic Millions Stayers Cup next year which is worth a million dollars."
