Friday 31 August 2018, 9:13am

In-form Brisbane jockey Ron Stewart is set to have a working holiday in Mauritius.

The much -ravelled Stewart has carved out a solid niche for himself since moving to Brisbane in late 2016.

He rode 71 overall winners last season and finished sixth in the metropolitan premiership on 44.

Sydney's champion apprentice in 2002/03, he has since ridden with success in Singapore, South Australia, Macau and Mauritius.

He also took a year off to get his helicopter pilot licence.

Stewart said he had ridden for six months in Mauritius earlier in his career and enjoyed the experience.

"It is something a bit different. They approached me and I intend to ride there for the first time from September 15," Stewart said.

"At this stage I will be finished late in November which means I could be back in Brisbane for the summer carnival."'

Stewart doesn't intend to ride again in Brisbane before heading to Mauritius.

"I have to serve out a suspension first so I will get that out of the way,: he said.
