As time marches on and champion racehorses grace the racetrack and quickly disappear to stud or are lost to injury, as humans our memory fades as to the spectacular deeds these equine stars achieved.

It's only when you look back and review what they accomplished do your senses refocus and you recall their natural abilities.

SCISSOR KICK 2011 Bay Horse by Redoute's Choice - Back Pass, by Quest for Fame.

This Gr1-placed, Gr3 winning son of Champion Redoute's Choice is from one of the best families in the world.

2018 Service Fee: $16,500 inc GST

Trainer Paul Messara said “Scissor Kick is a strikingly attractive colt and was always the pick of the mounting yard.”

“A very genuine racehorse with a fantastic temperament, he’s a beautiful horse to work with and was very unlucky not to win a Group One.”

Arrowfield Stud boss John Messara said: “Arrowfield has a perfect record with Redoute’s Choice and his sire sons and I believe Scissor Kick has all the physical, mental and genetic attributes to extend it.”

OVERVIEW

The incredibly handsome and exceptionally quick Scissor Kick retired to Arrowfield alongside is own Sire Redoute’s Choice known as the “King of Sires,” becoming the fourth Group 1-performed son of Redoute’s Choice to have been on the Arrowfield Stud roster – taking his place alongside top stallions Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt, and Beneteau (now deceased).

Most significantly, Scissor Kick also hails from the stallion-producing female family of Danehill’s champion European son Dansili, a sire of over 100 Stakes Winners including 19 Group 1 winners.

RACE CAREER in Review:

As a 2yo Scissor Kick had the industry professionals on notice that he was a horse with a significant future ahead of him. Looking for a Golden Slipper start, Scissor Kick won a trial impressively at Randwick before heading to his first start but performed below expectation and his 2YO Autumn campaign was lost having pulled-up very shinsore and was immediately spelled.

His true ability was displayed at his first run back from a spell when getting ready for the 3YO Spring when he easily won a 2YO midweek event at Canterbury by 2.5 lengths on the 23rd July 2014 which was the final week of the 2YO Season. This left his 2YO career as 2 starts / 1 win.

This 2YO win would be the first of 3 wins in succession achieved by Scissor Kick.

Whilst impressive in his 2YO win, it was Scissor Kick’s outstanding 3YO Spring campaign that established him among Australia’s best 3YO colts.

At his next start and his first start as a 3YO, Scissor Kick won the ATC (Randwick) Rosebud H. 1200m LR (defeating Better Land and Inkling).

Then he made it 3 in a row when he won the ATC (Kensington) Up and Coming S. 1300m Gr3 (defeating Panzer Division and Valentia).

Then looking to make it four in a row, Scissor Kick was a certainty beaten when in a photo finish he missed out by just 0.2 length having found himself back in 10th position early in the race and being held up in traffic when finishing a close 2nd in the ATC (Rosehill) Golden Rose S., Gr1 1400m (to Hallowed Crown, defeating Shooting to Win).

However jockey Tye Angland had no doubt about the quality of his widely admired second-placed effort, saying afterwards “He's a real fighter, best horse in the race.”

Scissor Kick penultimate start to round out his 3YO Spring campaign was when stepping up to an uncomfortable trip at the 1500m in the Stan Fox Gr.2, where despite a brave effort, he found the trip too far when finishing in 2nd spot to Shooting to Win, defeating Valentia.

A revised plan then sent Scissor Kick to Melbourne for a throw at the stumps 6 weeks later in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200m however the horse was tired and finished mid-field.

Scissor Kick was set a long and interesting Autumn / Winter 3YO campaign.
It began with spectacular success in the ATC (Rosehill) Eskimo Prince S. 1200m Gr3 (defeating subsequent Gr1 winner Delectation and Harrier Jet).

He then was an unlucky 1.7 length 5th in the ATC (Rosehill) Hobartville 1400m Gr2 (to Hallowed Crown, Sweynesse, Kermedec & Shooting To Win) having drawn barrier 13 of 13 and having a torrid run in transit.

It would then be 8 weeks between race starts into the ATC (Randwick) All Aged S., Gr.1 (1400m) where he finished 4th just 1 length behind Dissident, Wandjina & Chautauqua.

Next he headed north to Brisbane for the Winter carnival where he was back in distance to the 1200m of the BTC CUP Gr1 where he finished a gallant 2.5 length 5th to Hot Snitzel, Knoydart and Our Boy Malachi.

He had his final run as a 3YO in the Doomben 10,000 over 1350m but the wear and tear of a long, hard, 6 month preparation told and he finished unplaced behind Boban.

As a result the horse was given a long spell and missed the 4YO Spring.

He resumed with just 1 run as an Autumn 4yo in the Gr1 Futurity over 1400m at Caulfield where he finished unplaced and was subsequently retired.

Catalogue Comments from 3 of Australia’s Leading Yearling Judges:

Dr Tim Roberts (Veterinarian)

"This is a quality colt by the exciting First Season Sire - Scissor Kick. He is a tremendous individual and was one of the best types available at the complex."
"He is just a really well put together Colt, he’s got a wonderful action, a really big powerful and fluid stride."
"He looks a precocious type that will continue to improve with maturity and I feel that he was an absolute bargain."
"He had Low Risk X-rays and a Gr1 Scope, I don’t think you can go wrong with a Colt like him."

Dean Watt (Dynamic Syndications)

"Son’s of Redoute’s Choice at stud work and Scissor Kick is from an incredibly family.
"He was an underrated horse, his stats and figures were incredible and he defeated 12 Gr1 Winners during his career.
"I was keen to buy one in 2019 and after inspecting the majority of them at Magic Millions and the Inglis Classic I know this bloke is the best of them by far.
"He’s got a great pedigree, he’s a wonderful type and he was a sales ring bargain.
"He represents terrific value for money and is the best value for money promotion we will be doing in 2019."

RICHARD FREEDMAN (Trainer):

"People forget just how good Scissor Kick was. Timeform rated him a better 3yo than recent Gr1 Winning Colt’s Russian Revolution and Merchant Navy who now stand at stud for huge service fees."
"I am really excited by this stallion, I think he represents a wonderful opportunity to buy a really nice type of horse for extremely good value and that is exactly what this Colt is."
"He looks like he should come early, he has a great pedigree, he is an extremely good looking horse and value for money wise, you won’t find better."
