BIG STRONG HIND QUARTER AND NECK, SPRINTING TYPE OF 2YO FILLY

This Nicconi filly was purchased from well-regarded Middlebrook Stud. She will be trained by Luke Pepper at Canberra.

She is one powerful filly and possesses a big strong hind-quarter, a filly that has lots of physical strength, strong forearms and nicely put together. She also has strong gaskins, short cannon bones, big deep girth and also great shoulders. This filly fits the mould of a pure sprinter and her pedigree also suggests the same.

This Nicconi filly is currently in pre-training at Bella Lodge with astute horseperson Charlotte Manuel in preparation to go to Luke Peppers Canberra stables. She is doing everything right and is loving her work.

She has passed her clinical examination and is sound.

This filly comes from a strong black type family, she is the direct descendant of 37 individual black type winners including, 4 at Group 1 level, 8 at Group 2 level and 10 at Group 3 level. She has also 13 individual Group 1 winners bred on the same breeding patterns.

SIRE: NICCONI

The Sire NICCONI, by Bianconi, 6 wins-1 at 2-to 1400m, CHAMPION AUSTRALIAN 3YO SPRINTER. Two time Group 1 winner, AJC Galaxy Handicap and VRC Lightning Stakes. One of Australia’s most popular and patronised stallions. Sire of this season’s Group 1 winning sprint sensation NATURE STRIP. Sire of the 2019 Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up LANKAN STAR.

Boasting a superb career WINNER / RUNNERS STRIKE- RATE of 74%. Earnings of over $37 million, 18 stakes winners, 13 stakes placegetters.

David Hayes: “The fastest to have come out of Lindsay Park, the best sprinter I have ever trained.”

Broodmare sire CHOISIR is considered a champion racehorse. Top colt on the 2001-02 Australasian 2YO classification, Champion 2YO colt in Australia 2001-02, Champion older male sprinter in Great Britain 2003. A 2 time group 1 winner, Golden Jubilee Stakes and Lighting Stakes.

He has also reached good heights as a broodmare sire, his progeny have won over $31 million.

TRAINER: LUKE PEPPER

Luke Pepper rode the Australian turf legend Takeover Target in most of his work and travelled all over the world with the wonderful sprinter, playing an significant role in victories in the UK, Singapore and Japan.
Like many top trainers Luke’s involvement with horses dates back to his time in a pony club before developing a passion for the horse that took him show jumping and into other equestrian pursuits.

Luke Pepper learned a great deal from his seven years working with Barbara Joseph and another top Canberra horseman, Nick Olive, where he became stable foreman before branching out on his own in the 2009/10 season.
Pepper almost immediately made history when he trained the winners of the Moruya, Narooma and Bega Cups in his first year of training.

Luke Pepper enjoys the benefits of the terrific facilities at the course with a synthetic track always available for fast work as well as grass tracks and a swimming pool. Luke has his own horse walker at the stable, which adds to the variety of training he can provide every horse in his care.

Being located in Canberra gives Pepper many options when it comes to placing his horses, which he believes is as important as getting them to peak fitness.

The stable is perfectly placed to send horses to Sydney or Melbourne while Luke is quite comfortable taking runners to Adelaide or Brisbane if the right race arises. Luke Pepper has trained more than 200 winners and 500 placings.
“If I can get the best out of each horse I train, then I’m happy,” Luke Pepper says.
