Brown answers SOS for Gold Coast double

Saturday 15 November 2014, 6:00pm

Top jockey Damian Browne confirmed his rating as the go-to man for under-achieving horses when he rode a double from two rides at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Browne, a multiple Group One-winning jockey, won on Tukiyo ($4.40) and Miss Cover Girl ($2.60) who had both been below their top in recent weeks.

Tukiyo won the Kiyomi At Jupiters Handicap (1200m) after Browne gave her the run of the race just behind the pace and then got a rails run in the straight.

Trainer Lacey Morrison was full of praise for Browne and Tukiyo who will now chase the Listed Travel Associates Classic at Doomben on November 29.

"What a gun ride. That is why I always book Damian when he can make the weight for my horses," Morrison said.

Browne was equally good on Miss Cover Girl in the Commercial Kitchen Co. Handicap after she had run third and fourth at her two runs back from a spell for apprentice jockeys.

Trainer Kelly Schweida believes Miss Cover Girl, who has now won five of her seven starts, can win a good race at 1600m before her campaign is finished.

"Her dam Tolart got out to 1800 metres so I don't see the 1600 metres being a problem for her," he said.

Top galloper Sir Moments ($2.50) confirmed a trip to Sydney when he won the Starfish Handicap (1400m) with a powerful burst.

Trainer Steve O'Dea is sure that Sir Moments can be competitive in the Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on December 13.

"He leaves for Sydney on Tuesday and will have his next run in the Festival Stakes there in a fortnight before heading into the Villiers," O'Dea said.

"To beat to such a strong field so well is a good pointer to where he is at."

Trainer Rob Heathcote and apprentice Bridget Grylls combined for their 11th win of the season when Dream Of Slips won the Cordner Taylor Handicap (1200m).
