Angland suspended but free to ride in Cup

Saturday 1 November 2014, 5:54pm

A careless riding supension from Derby Day will not affect Tye Angland riding in the Melbourne Cup but he will miss a Group One ride later in the week.

Angland was suspended for shifting in aboard Hawkspur shortly after the start in Saturday's Group One Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington, causing interference to runners to his inside.

With the acceptances already out for Tuesday's meeting, Angland is free to ride the Chris Waller-trained Opinion in the $6 million Melbourne Cup.

His 11-meeting ban starts after that meeting, ruling him out of Oaks Day and Emirates Stakes day.

Angland pleaded guilty to the careless riding charge and he will miss the ride on Manawanui in the Group One Emirates Stakes next Saturday.

He is free to resume riding on November 15.
