Telescope camp banking on Ryan Moore

Wednesday 29 October 2014, 10:05am

Connections of Telescope believe Cox Plate winning jockey Ryan Moore can make the most of the favourite's inside draw in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita.

Moore, fresh from steering Adelaide to a history-making win in Australia on Saturday, has partnered the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt in his past eight races.

"I'm glad we've got Ryan Moore as he's the man to get Telescope out of the number one gate," Harry Herbert, racing manager for owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, said.

"We'll leave it up to Ryan. I'm sure he'll be able to sort that out and hopefully get a lead.

"This horse has got good tactical speed and has been prepared solely for this race."

Telescope is just one member of a strong European presence at the Breeders' Cup which begins on Friday with the major features a day later.

French trainer Freddy Head has Anodin stepping out in the Mile, following in the path of his incredible sibling Goldikova.

The mare won the race twice at Santa Anita in 2008 and 2009 and completed the hat-trick with another brilliant display at Churchill Downs in 2010.

She was retired after finishing a close third at Churchill Downs in 2011, having won a staggering 14 Group One races during her stellar career.

Anodin has yet to win at the highest level, but has mixed it with the best in Europe this season, finishing third in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot before finding only the brilliant Kingman too strong in the Prix Jacques le Marois.

"He's a lovely horse to deal with, not like his sister in demeanour and a much nicer horse," Head said.

"This horse needs a bit of time and space in his races before coming with a late run."

The Juvenile has lost its favourite with American Pharoah out of the race with a bruised foot.

The race usually decides the nominal favourite for the following year's Kentucky Derby.
