Prime Thoroughbreds reflect on over a decade of winners

Monday 20 October 2014, 10:35am

Joe O’Neill from Prime Thoroughbreds has been successfully syndicating thoroughbreds since late 1997. In that time they have had great success syndicating Group, Listed and Metropolitan winners in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.

Recently we had our 600th winner when The Deestructor scored the milestone win at Eagle Farm.

In the 2012/13 Season we had winners of 48 races and followed up that good result with 32 winners in the 2013/14 Season.  Already in the current season we have had 11 winners at a winning strike rate of 25% winners to runners.

This has included winners in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania. Our team includes the very good three year olds Husson Eagle, Hijack Hussy, Savoureux, Raido, Rumeron, Sitkamose, Bella Venus and Makeadane as well as the exciting debut two year old winner Atalanta Miss which won the first two year old race of the season in South Australia.

We have some very exciting times ahead with 14 unraced two year olds and two unraced three year olds included in our team of horses.

Our four year old and older horses include the stakes or metropolitan performers Pitt Street, Awasita, Prime Shadow, Sanosuke, Terra Amata, Faith’n’Courage, Princess Royale, Hot To Trot, Beau Jez, The Deestructor, Hail Maher and Unique.

We are always proud of the fact that because we look after our horses when they are young, we generally always have about 25% of our team being four years old and up.  In fact all 14 of our class of 2012, now four years old raced with 12 individual winners.

Our class of 2013 has seen 11 of the 13 race with seven individual winners to date.  I expect all 13 to win races barring the unforeseen.  This crop was weakened somewhat with the most expensive colt and filly purchases dying due to a colic attack and pneumonia.

Prime Thoroughbreds horses are with Australians leading trainers including the training partnership of David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Mark Kavanagh in Victoria.  Tony McEvoy is our South Australian trainer. Kris Lees, John Thompson and Tony McEvoy are our trainers in NSW.  We have Tony Gollan and John Thompson in Queensland and in Tasmania, the training partnership of Charlie Goggin and Leuella Meaburn look after the team.

Each of these trainers and partnerships have established themselves at the top of their profession nationally and in their particular states which means our horses couldn't be in better hands.

Some of the better horses to have worn our colours include Hidden Wonder, Under Command, Unchain My Heart, Calming, Desk Top Lover, Too Many Reds, Unabated, Believe’n’Achieve, Zero Drama, Holding, Polish The Silver, Maha Chakri, Transparent Lass, Horrocks, Lord Monty, Captain Chaos, Greenmount Belle, Eramor, Huiskes and the list goes on.

Joe O'Neill is a regular and well-respected figure at all the major Australian Yearling sales. He is available to discuss ownership opportunities with individuals who are looking at racing quality horses.

Prime Thoroughbreds have some great youngers available for syndication on Bloodstock.com.au. Check them out by clicking here.
