Eloping searches for more stakes success

Quality filly Eloping gets the chance to take back some of the family spotlight in the $250,000 Blue Sapphire Stakes.

Eloping is favourite to notch the fourth stakes victory of her career in Wednesday's Listed 1200-metre race at Caulfield, four days after her younger three-quarter brother Of The Brave won the Listed Debutant Stakes.

She headlines a field of seven runners in the Blue Sapphire after the scratching of the Chris Waller-trained Delectation.

Trainer Craig Widdison can't fault the filly, a last-start winner of the Group Three Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley.

"These races are always hard to win but for the prize money and what you might have expected early days when you are looking at a race like this, I think it's worked out pretty nicely for us," Widdison said.

Eloping won the Blue Diamond Preview for fillies at Caulfield in January and also took out the Group Three Royal Randwick Stakes during an eight-start juvenile season.

She returned as a three-year-old with a third at weight-for-age in the McEwen Stakes before dominating the Champagne Stakes.

Widdison said they were unsure how Eloping was going to come back this campaign because she didn't change much in her time off after her two-year-old season.

"She's in great order and since that last win she's cleaned up in her coat and her work has been great," he said.

Eloping, to be ridden by Stephen Baster, is the $3.20 favourite ahead of Husson Eagle ($4.80) and the Doug Harrison-trained Tudor ($6).

Tudor finished second to Eloping when the pair met on debut in December at Bendigo.

He will be ridden by Harrison's nephew Craig Williams.

"His win the other day after having a freshen up was really dominant and he's going to be competitive in a really competitive three-year-old race," Williams said.
