Shinn rides luck with Englebrecht stayer

Tuesday 7 October 2014, 4:10pm

Steve Englebrecht is as thankful as he is relieved to have Blake Shinn continue an association with his stable at Warwick Farm.

Confirming he is one of Sydney most sought-after jockeys with a Group One double at the weekend, Shinn will be out to keep an unblemished record with the Englebrecht-trained Lucky Lucky Lucky in the Bloodstock.com.au Handicap on Wednesday.

"To say he is hot to trot at the moment is an understatement," Englebrecht said.

"He's got plenty of choices and getting him to ride your horse is a bonus.

"Blake's won two of two on Lucky Lucky Lucky and I'm glad he's on again."

Lucky Lucky Lucky returned to winning form when he outstayed a similar field at Warwick Farm, confirming some of the promise he showed as an inexperienced stayer.

Aside from a minor weight turnaround, Englebrecht can't dispute an early betting call that has Lucky Lucky Lucky as favourite to make it back-to-back wins at his home track.

"I wouldn't say he's improved from his last run but he's no worse and that makes him a good chance again," the trainer said.

Shinn won the Flight Stakes on First Seal for John Thompson and the Metropolitan for Chris Waller on Saturday.

And the 27-year-old is well placed to add to his Group One haul when he rides warm favourite Sweynesse for Godolphin in this week's Spring Champion Stakes.

Unbeaten Sweynesse is nominated for the Cox Plate and Victoria Derby but Godolphin's best chance for the latter race might rest with Gouldian, a James McDonald ride in the Shop With The TAB App Maiden Plate (1600m) at Warwick Farm.

Stakes-placed as a two-year-old, Gouldian was trapped in a pocket at his most recent run at Canterbury and will be strongly fancied to make amends.
