Mali Rose out to make winning debut

Friday 3 October 2014, 4:01pm

Gai Waterhouse is looking to hit the ground running with her new season two-year-olds including Mali Rose who makes her debut at Flemington.

Waterhouse has chances in both the Gimcrack Stakes and Breeders' Plate for two-year-olds in Sydney on Saturday while she has sent Mali Rose south in a bid to earn the filly black type early in the season in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m).

Mali Rose is by Medaglia D'Oro out of Mysterious Light.

The filly's grand dam Cirque Du Soleil is a sister to Fastnet Rock.

"I'm over the moon with her," Waterhouse said of Mali Rose.

"She's quite tough. She could end up being an Oaks filly next year.

"She's got a beautiful pedigree. She's a very attractive filly and is quite light on her feet.

"She's right up there with the best of the two-year-olds that I've got."

Mali Rose finished third in her barrier trial at Randwick last week.

The filly cost $280,000 at this year's Magic Millions yearling sale.

Tommy Berry takes the ride in Saturday's race with the star Sydney jockey in Melbourne to continue his association with the Waterhouse-trained Melbourne Cup favourite The Offer in the Turnbull Stakes.
