Terravista sets up Lankan Rupee Gr 1 clash

Saturday 20 September 2014, 5:48pm

Joe Pride flagged a possible clash with Group One star Lankan Rupee after Terravista annihilated a smart field of sprinters at Randwick on Saturday.

The trainer, who has won feature races with Sacred Choice and Vision And Power and puts the polish on multiple Group One placegetter Rain Affair, was moved to declare Terravista the best horse he has trained.

The five-year-old produced a stunning turn of foot to put away a quality field in The Shorts (1100m) and post his most important win to date.

"Hopefully he's not the best horse I ever have, but he's the best I've had so far," Pride said.

"He's got an amazing sprint on him. He can sit off a hot speed. He's never been beaten over 1200 metres or below and it will be a long time before he is I think.

"I might even take him down for the Manikato."

The Group One Manikato Stakes is run on October 24 and is also the spring target for Australia's dominant sprinter Lankan Rupee.

It is one of several options Pride will weigh up, along with a start in the Group Two Premiere Stakes at Randwick.

Winning jockey Corey Brown had no doubt Terravista was a horse to follow over the carnival.

"Over that distance with that turn of foot, he's pretty special," Brown said.

Brown showed comparable dash when he sprinted from the jockeys' room hoping to make a flight to Singapore which was due to depart an hour after the last race.
