Hayes stable dominates Caulfield meeting

Saturday 20 September 2014, 3:41pm

A failed vet's test has worked out in favour of trainer David Hayes, saving the Australian racing career of first-up Caulfield winner Star Fashion.

This year's Australasian Oaks runner-up brought up the third win for the day for the training partnership of Hayes and Tom Dabernig Saturday with a photo victory in the Dalziel Racing Tile Importer Handicap (1400m)

Hayes revealed Star Fashion was due to head to Hong Kong to join trainer John Size and had been in quarantine to make the trip but failed a veterinary examination.

"I thought she was ideal for the (Hong Kong) Derby. She's out of Elegant Fashion who was the queen up there and the owner wanted to send her," Hayes said.

"I was a bit sad to lose her, but the vets failed her so we've got her here.

"And she'll be going towards the Myer Classic now."

Star Fashion followed wins by Firehouse Rock and Fast `N' Rocking to bring up three wins from the first five races for the resurgent Lindsay Park stable.

She finished well to defeat Suavito with 1-1/4 lengths to Nadeem Lass third.

Star Fashion is by the stallion Street Cry who was euthanised earlier this week after failing to recover from a rare neurological condition.
