Added incentive for Dissident WFA success

Friday 12 September 2014, 3:47pm

Dissident's price tag as a stallion prospect has gone up considerably since his weight-for-age win in the Memsie Stakes.

It will rise again if he can add Saturday's Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington with his trainer and part-owner Peter Moody conscious of his value.

"There's certainly been some studs making inquiries and there's probably no doubt this is the horse's last season of racing," Moody said.

"We've got to be mindful that we've got quite a valuable asset on our hands now and that dictates somewhat to where we head with him race-wise also."

Dissident is by 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring out of Anabaa mare Diana's Secret.

After his win in the Memsie, Dissident was promoted to the second line of betting for the Cox Plate but Moody is uncertain whether he will progress that far.

He is also uncertain what to take from his lead-up work to the Makybe Diva which ordinarily would please him.

"It's no secret his gallop leading into the Memsie, I wasn't overly pleased with," Moody said.

"He got a bit lost and was still on his Sydney leg and he struggled on the soft ground.

"The tracks have firmed up nicely in the past couple of weeks and his work has really pleased us, so much so on Tuesday morning it was probably as nice a piece of work as he has produced.

"I'm not sure whether to take positives or negatives away from that but he looks a picture, he's very happy and healthy so we can't fault him."

Moody was convinced heading into the Memsie that Dissident would be better suited in the Makybe Diva over a mile on the bigger track.

"So I'm hoping like hell I'm a good judge," he said.
