Boss full of praise for boom colt Chivalry

Thursday 11 September 2014, 4:16pm

Seeing was believing for champion jockey Glen Boss with Chivalry after the colt came from last to win the McNeil Stakes first-up.

And Boss expects the Caulfield Guineas favourite can again show why the jockey rates him the best colt in Victoria when he takes on a strong field in Saturday's Listed Living Legends Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

"He probably shouldn't have won first-up from where he was," Boss said.

"It's hard to ignore the obvious of how impressive he was.

"Saturday is a stepping stone for where he's going but I'm still expecting him to go out there and be very hard to beat."

Boss said he loved being involved with a horse like Chivalry.

"I just love his attitude, his energy and his enthusiasm for what he does," Boss said of Chivalry.

"He just loves being out on the track and doing what he's doing. They are really good traits that colts should have."

The Caulfield Guineas is the main target for Chivalry.

But he is among 26 three-year-olds that have been been paid up at the first acceptance stage for the Cox Plate.

Chivalry is the $3 favourite for Saturday's race with boom colt Divan at $5.50.

Chad Schofield has the ride on Divan and appears equally as excited about the future of the well-bred son of Zabeel, who won a maiden at Sandown first-up with Damien Oliver aboard.

Schofield rode Divan on debut in a Listed race in April and while he says he still has to step up he believes he can get to the top.

"It will be very interesting on Saturday when he lines up against the likes of Chivalry and Zebulon.

"He's only having his third start, he's not as seasoned as the other colts in the race but I'm pretty confident he's as good as them."
