Midweek winners good for business: Waller

Wednesday 10 September 2014, 5:07pm

Leading trainer Chris Waller insists he will never underestimate the value of a midweek victory after collecting a winning double at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Waller trained Dynamic Rock and Hollywood Bound to win successive races and while they aren't household names in his Rosehill stable they are an integral part of his Sydney racing juggernaut.

"These bread-and-butter horses are very important to the stable. They earn money for the business to keep going day to day," Waller said.

"I was hoping to win a race with Hollywood Bound and send him to the paddock but while he is racing so well now it is hard to turn him out."

Hollywood Bound made it two wins in the space of a week in the TAB Quaddie Handicap with premiership-winning jockey James McDonald given the credit for making a difference to the five-year-old's approach to racing.

"James has got the knack of switching him off in his races," Waller said.

Hollywood Bound's win ended the unbeaten run of Diamond Valores but the three-year-old will be sent deeper into the Sydney carnival.

Trainer Peter Snowden said the promising galloper would be given a middle-distance test in the Gloaming Stakes.

Hollywood Bound's win came after Waller and McDonald combined with success in last week's Wyong Gold Cup with Multilateral.

Waller also applauded his other winning jockey, Tim Clark, after Dynamic Rock held on to win the Pro-Ride Handicap.

"The plan was to be handy but obviously when there was no speed on Tim opted to lead and it proved to be a winning move," Waller said.

Dynamic Rock gave Clark race-to-race wins after helping Randwick trainer Pat Webster land his first city victory of the season.

Setting the tone for his double, Clark sent Deadset to the front and the three-year-old took control of the Testa Rossa @ Vinery Stud Handicap before scoring decisively.
