Rawiller suspension reduced on appeal

Tuesday 27 November 2012, 4:04pm

In-form jockey Brad Rawiller will be back in the saddle at Caulfield on Saturday thanks to a hefty reduction in a careless riding suspension.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board effectively cut the suspension Rawiller incurred at Warrnambool last Thursday from 14 meetings to six, allowing him to ride at Caulfield on Saturday.

Rawiller rode winning trebles on Saturday at Moonee Valley and Sunday at Ballarat before beginning his suspension on Monday.

He has ridden 16 winners from his past 64 rides.

Rawiller appealed against both his conviction and the severity of the original penalty, the RAD Board agreeing with the latter aspect, ruling the suspension should end at midnight on Friday and that he should pay a $1000 fine.

The appeal hearing went ahead despite vital footage of the race being unavailable.

Rawiller claimed the side-on view of the incident would have shown he was sufficiently clear of other runners when he shifted ground in the home straight, causing interference.

But the film couldn't be made available until Thursday.

Rawiller, who agreed to have the case heard using whatever footage was on hand, said he was satisfied with the outcome.
