You Did What lands last race at Eagle Farm

Wednesday 20 August 2014, 5:37pm

Caloundra galloper You Did What had the honour of winning the last race at Eagle Farm before a $22 million upgrade of Brisbane's best-known racetrack.

You Did What won the Farewell Handicap (1200m) on Wednesday, ending almost 150 years of racing on the Eagle Farm course proper.

The track will be shut after barrier trials on Thursday and not be re-opened until after $22 million renovation is complete.

It is hoped Eagle Farm will be reopened for racing by May.

Trainer John Zielke said You Did What ($9) had improved greatly after being gelded and may be given his chance during the Sydney spring carnival because he likes wet tracks.

Melbourne-bound Teronado pleased trainer Bruce Hill with his effort to finish second to You Did What.

"We will just see what the weather does in the next week or so before deciding whether to go to Sydney before Melbourne," said Hill about his Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate entry.
