Class edge a help for Tear It Up at Farm

Wednesday 20 August 2014, 2:00pm

Smart mare Tear it Up could have earned herself another season of racing with her win at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Sent out favourite, Tear It Up ($1.90) had too much class for a field of restricted-class mares when she won the Hamilton Hotel Handicap (1000m).

Trainer Tony Gollan said Tear It Up was booked to go to stud this season but he hoped to talk owner Troy Schmidt into racing the mare for another 12 months.

"She won the feature Bracelet race at Toowoomba late last year but it no longer had black-type status," Gollan said.

"It is a pity because she is a mare who deserves to go to stud with black type. I would like to keep her for another season and run her in the black-type races around Christmas."

Gollan said the eventual decision would be made by Schmidt who is his biggest owner.

Meanwhile, trainer Darlene Duryea could only give a wry smile when Katelette ($7) won the Australian Open Polo Doomben Racecourse Plate (1000m).

Katelette is by Dr Green, a sire Duryea stood at stud until only recently.

"We gave Dr Green away a couple of weeks ago. He will stand again this year at Beaudesert but not for us," she said.

Katelette had shown pace at her past two starts but was ridden back in the field on Wednesday.

"We didn't give Brad (jockey Brad Stewart) any instructions because she was drawn very wide. But he plotted the right courses and it was a great ride," Duryea said.
