Mahisara scores first-up at Rosehill

Saturday 29 September 2012, 6:12pm

Mahisara proved a handful prior to the final race at Rosehill on Saturday but thankfully for connections, he converted it to racetrack performance.

The Paul Messara-trained entire was sent out for the The ICONIC Race (1300m) without race plates on his two hind feet after proving too difficult to re-shoe in the raceday stalls.

But with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle, Mahisara ($9.50) sat one-out and one-back during the run and was able to get the better of favourite Under The Sun ($3) to win by a short neck with Hard Liquor ($12) third.

"He gave us a hell of a lot of trouble today out the back," Messara said.

"He sprung one of his plates and we were no chance of getting it back on.

"He's physically a big, strong horse and we ended up having to take off both plates and race him without hind shoes on, which is a big disadvantage.

"So what he did was impressive."

Mahisara won a stakes race as a two-year-old and Messara said he had a Listed race in Melbourne picked out for the four-year-old's next start.
