Lord Of The Sky could back up at Valley

Sunday 27 July 2014, 6:10pm

Beaten Bletchingly Stakes favourite Lord Of The Sky is in line to back up in a Moonee Valley sprint race on Saturday.

The rising four-year-old was odds-on to win Saturday's Group Three Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield but failed to finish in the placings as Adelaide filly Thiamandi sprinted to victory.

Trainer Robbie Laing said the colt had pulled up with no issues.

"He's as good as gold," Laing said.

"I might freshen him all this week, just keep him away from the track and then go to Moonee Valley on Saturday over 1000 metres.

"I'll claim three kilograms off his back and just let him run."

Laing believes Lord Of The Sky and Le Bonsir, who shared the lead in Saturday's race, might have brought each other undone.

Undeterred by the colt's fourth-placing in his first attempt at 1200m, Laing still plans to press ahead towards a shot at the Group One Memsie Stakes (1400m) next month.

"I believe he is a Group One horse in the making," Laing said.

"He's very hard to hold in even time work, so he might as well go to Moonee Valley and have a 1000 metre gallop next week."

Lord Of The Sky has won five of his nine starts including the Group Three Sir John Monash Stakes earlier this month.
