Carlton House in 1200m Randwick hit-out

Saturday 26 July 2014, 1:04pm

Carlton House has begun his build-up to the Cox Plate with a gallop at Randwick but there is no indication where or when he will make his race return.

The six-year-old galloped over 1200m with Tommy Berry aboard at his first public appearance since his third in the race named after his owner, the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, in April.

The former English horse ran his final 600m in 37.7secs on the Kensington track which was in the dead range after rain.

"He is still getting fit and will need another strong gallop and a trial," Gai Waterhouse's stable representative Mark Newnham said.

"The aim is the Cox Plate but we are not sure yet when he will resume."

Berry, who rode Carlton House in the Queen Elizabeth, kept him wide on the track.

"He stretched out nicely," he said.

In addition to his Queen Elizabeth third behind It's A Dundeel, Carlton House has a Group One placing in Australia when a close second to Silent Achiever in the Ranvet Stakes.

He was trained by Sir Michael Stoute in England and ran second to So You Think in the 2012 Prince Of Wales's Stakes.

Berry also gave VRC Oaks winner Kirramosa a tour of the track with the filly working over 800m, her final 600 in 36.87secs.

"She cruised up nicely. It was like she hadn't been around," he said.

Trainer John Sargent said Kirramosa would begin her four-year-old season in the Group Two Missile Stakes (1200m) in two weeks and he would work out her program after that race.
