Leon and Troy Corstens to form partnership

Friday 25 July 2014, 6:22pm

Leon Corstens and his son Troy will form a training partnership from the start of the new season with stables in three places.

Veteran trainer Leon Corstens operates out of a private property at Romsey in country Victoria while Troy will remain based at Flemington.

Troy Corstens said the pair would also have a third option with another stable near the water.

"We will have a new set up on the beach down at Balnarring," Troy Corstens said.

"It will just give us a lot of options."

Corstens said the property at Balnarring would be up and running in October.

Leon Corstens was a foreman for legendary trainer Bart Cummings in Melbourne for 25 years before starting training in his own right in 1994.

His Group One wins include the 2002 Caulfield Guineas, Victoria Derby and 2003 Rosehill Guineas with Helenus, and the Caulfield Guineas and Oakleigh Plate with Starspangledbanner in the 2009/10 season.
