Apprentice continues hot streak at Doomben

Wednesday 23 July 2014, 1:54pm

Hard-working apprentice Janette Johnson's willingness to travel paid off when she won her third race at three different tracks in four days at Doomben on Wednesday.

Johnson won an apprentices' race at Hawkesbury aboard the Gary Portelli-trained Stratacus on Sunday and then won the Ballina Bracelet on Bryan Guy's Castanita on Tuesday.

She followed up leading all the way to land Buon Auspicio, the $1.50 favourite, a winner in the Carlton Mid Handicap (1350m) at Doomben.

Owner Kate Nivison, whose family owned many top horses including the Golden Slipper winner Inspired, sent Buon Auspicio to Guy after her mare Jacquetta was retired last month.

"Kate has been really good to us and we had a lot of fun with Jacquetta who was stakes placed. Hopefully this one will be as good," Guy said.

He also paid tribute to Johnson who he uses on most of his horses.

"She rode 12 work this morning. You wouldn't get a harder worker," Guy said.

Meanwhile, trainer Tony Gollan has trained two Group One winners this year but admitted he was under greater pressure with Sequalex who won the Cellarbrations Liqour Handicap (1350m).

Sequalex is owned by his wife Jane and his sisters Zoe Daly and Tanya Harris.

"Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong with him. Training for your wife and two sisters, now that is pressure," said Gollan, who brought up his 57th city winner for the season.
