Scudamore banned for course blunder

Tuesday 22 July 2014, 9:46am

A lapse in concentration has cost one of Britain's most experienced jumps riders, Tom Scudamore, a 12-day ban.

Scudamore was riding in a hurdle at Cartmel but angled his mount Run Forest Run to the steeplechase course shortly after the start.

Run Forest Run jumped the first fence and once he realised what he had done, Scudamore pulled him out of the race.

The 32-year-old was apologetic and copped the ban on the chin.

"It was very unprofessional of me," Scudamore told the Racing Post.

"I was riding in a chase later on and I thought it was a chase. I had a mental block.

"I feel very sorry for the horse's connections and everyone that backed him.

"I was given a 12-day ban by the stewards and for once I don't feel hard done by."
