Waller pair poised to continue 2YO streak

Chris Waller's rising two-year-olds are finishing their education as the leading trainer revealed he is working with same number of young horses as last year.

As he tries to continue a late-season surge of juvenile winners on Saturday amid calls for racing officials to put a cap on stable runners in individual races, Waller said his decision to link with Denise Martin's Star Thoroughbreds had come at a numerical cost for his Rosehill set-up.

"We have an exclusive syndication arrangement with Star Thoroughbreds so we've lost few of the other syndicators who supported us," Waller said.

Including a dead-heat, Waller has won 10 of the 15 two-year-old races run in Sydney since the start of last month and he has Harrier Jet and Double Happy lining up in a bonus incentive race at Rosehill.

They promise to be hard to beat despite being ineligible for an extra $100,000 provided by auction firm Inglis.

Next season's juveniles are well in advance of a timetable Waller gives his babies.

"We have horses going through the barriers now and that is about a month ahead of where I usually would be at this time of the year," he said.

Martin-syndicated horses feature prominently in early-season races with her Breeders' Plate honour roll including Sebring (2007-2008), Whittington (2012-2013) and Law (2013-2014).

"I haven't said we've got to have a certain amount of runners in the Breeders' Plate or the Gimcrack Stakes," Waller said.

"If they are ready, yes. But we won't be pushing them. It's an approach that has served us well in the past and there's not need to change that."
