Metropolitan success for Royal Snitzel

Thursday 10 July 2014, 3:17pm

Classy 2yo filly Royal Snitzel lived right up to all of the expectations of her army of owners by coming to town and showing plenty of ability to score in the Open 2yo at Caulfield Saturday.

Ridden perfectly to plan by jockey Dale Smith Royal Snitzel showed excellent gate speed to sit outside stable mate Berlutti in the run before kicking clear of that horse in the straight and holding off the Luke Oliver trained and race favourite Zeletto late in the drive to the line.

Her time of 1.05.25 was four and half lengths quicker than the following Open 3yo fillies race won by Thiamandi and ran exactly the same time as Lord Of The Sky who won the GROUP 3 Monash ( although there was a subsequent  track down grade between races 1 and 6).

Nevertheless this filly has always shown an enormous amount of natural talent at home and has taken that talent to the races both times to win and has plenty of scope for further natural improvement as she hasn’t learnt to actually put away a field as yet and showed much greenness in the straight.

To know that this filly has that natural improvement left is the exciting part of this journey and this daughter of Snitzel, bred out of our 4 time Metropolitan winning mare Royal Charades will now head to the paddock for a couple of week’s freshen in readiness to tackle Black Type in the $150,000 GROUP 3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield for 3yo fillies on August 16.
