Stephen Baster suspended for 10 meetings

Saturday 5 July 2014, 5:22pm

Stephen Baster will miss `Finals Day' at Flemington after receiving a 10-meeting suspension at Caulfield.

Baster earned the suspension when he allowed his mount Running Bull to shift in when insufficiently clear of Baligari at the 350m of the Sportingbet.com.au Handicap (1400m).

Baster pleaded guilty to the charge, admitting Running Bull did shift in but he was unable to correct his mistake because the eventual winner Jessy Belle was immediately on his outside.

Running Bull was second across the line while Baligari was fourth but the latter's jockey protested.

Stewards promoted Baligari to third while relegating Running Bull to fourth.

Baster's penalty begins at midnight on July 5 and the jockey will be able to resume riding on July 16.
