Appropriate win for I've Got The Looks

Saturday 5 July 2014, 3:00pm

On the day honouring trainer Guy Walter, I've Got The Looks has scored a fitting win at Rosehill.

Walter died suddenly in May and after securing the future of his Warwick Farm stable, his wife Wendy will step down as the interim trainer of the team.

Blake Shinn drove I've Got The Looks ($4.20) through a gap in the straight and mare responded to win Saturday's benchmark 84 (1200m).

Wendy Walter has been assisted by Shinn and injured jockey Peter Robl over the past few weeks, enabling her to ensure the stable staff will remain in place when Joe Pride takes over the Walter stable block and some of the horses.

"The support of Peter and Blake has been fabulous," Walter said.

"Not just working to keep the stable running but the moral support they have given me.

"To see this mare win is special. I think my husband had something to do with it."

Shinn, who had established himself as the stable jockey, said he thought about the late trainer during the race.

"It went through my head how Guy would want me to ride her," he said.

"To ride her quiet and wait for the opening.

"Today was just meant to be.

"I wanted to honour a great man and to honour him the way he deserves to go out."

A photo of Guy and Wendy Walter graced Saturday's racebook to honour the trainer who prepared many Group One winners headed by Tie The Knot.

His final Group One winner came just days before Walter died when Streama ended her career with victory in the Doomben Cup.
