Dynamic Win by Miss Hufflepuff

Monday 30 June 2014, 4:33pm

Congratulations to our Team of Owners that race Dynamic 3yo MISS HUFFLEPUFF (3yo filly by Encosta De Lago x Miss Helga) after she brought up her 2nd win for the preparation when scoring a tough and determined win at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

MISS HUFFLEPUFF won the second race on the card: The Ryan Family Class 2 2000m. The win was narrow scoring by a Nose x 2.5 lengths in 2:03.79 coming home in 36.30.

The toughness and determination of the win was the exciting factor.

Expecting to be an odds on favourite, there was we opened at $1.90 but blew at every call to get out to $2.80 whilst there was a huge go for the eventual runner up Fastnet Flyer, who was backed in at every call to challenge for favouritism. The strength of the money for the Fastnet Flyer was a source of concern that we may have a fight on our hands given the fact that we were a filly, having to give 1.5kgs in handicap weight and as a filly we would normally be given a 2.0kg allowance. Therefore we were meeting that colt 3.5kgs disadvantaged and the flood of money suggested we were in for a fight.

In a race devoid of speed on paper, we had drawn barrier 3 which looked a touch tricky at the 2000m start at Kembla. With even pace drawn underneath her, it was always looking difficult tactically, where we would end up after they had run along a couple of furlongs.  We had wanted to get cover and go to sleep until they turned for home but we couldn't see where we would be able to slot into a position and would need a bit of luck.

Unfortunately the race panned out early as we had feared it may and after 200m, we were trapped 3 deep. Wisely our jockey Paul Hammersley allowed MISS HUFFLEPUFF to roll forward and take up the lead. For 100m we had control of the speed but then another runner, the top weight strolled up to eyeball us from the 1400m.

The field was racing in pairs from then up to the 600m, where several runners began to swoop quickly.

As the field swung for home they were 4 across the track.

MISS HUFFLEPUFF had stuck to the fence throughout and had done all the hard work into the breeze.

Balancing up, for the run home and into the teeth of a strong headwind up the straight, Fastnet Flyer dashed up to eyeball MISS HUFFLEPUFF.

The pair knuckled down from the 400m in a fight to the finish. The runner-up headed our filly at the 300m and then got a neck in front but MISS HUFFLEPUFF wasn't to be denied. She dug deep and worked right to the line, proving the stronger stayer. Grafting back the lead stride by stride over the final 100m, she hit the front again 4 strides from the post. In a determined display, MISS HUFFLEPUFF stuck her nose out where it counted - on the line.

It was a fantastic result for her owners and the filly. Certainly it was well deserved. This was her 6th start this perpetration and her 2nd win.

She had won first up from a spell on a heavy track at Newcastle over 1500m.

She then came to Randwick and ran 2nd to NISROC over a shorter 1400m trip.

She then went Warwick Farm over 1600m but the race developed into a sit and sprint and we were too far back in transit to make up the ground. Next she went to Brisbane and ran in the Gr2 Roses over 2000m. Again she got well back and ran on prompting Nash Rawiller to say she should stay and run in the Oaks. However she was brought back to Sydney and ran 4th at Randwick over a shorter 1800m.

Back up to 2000m in this event she proved to her ownership team that 2000m and further is what she is crying out for.

That is in alignment with her pedigree. Her siblings are all winners over a trip and her Full Brother LIBERATOR is a Gr1 winner over 2400m and was crowned Champion Stayer in HK.

Her resume now reads: 9 starts 2 wins, 1 second, 1 fourth. $49,065 including 2 BOBS Bonuses.
