Hard Stride to saddle up again at Valley

Monday 16 June 2014, 5:56pm

Durable three-year-old Hard Stride shows no sign of slowing down despite an arduous campaign that will continue at Saturday's Moonee Valley meeting.

Hard Stride has had nine runs in a preparation that began in January but co-trainer Simon Zahra says the three-year-old continues to thrive.

"He's squealing and bucking around today and he's still a happy horse," Zahra, who trains Hard Stride in partnership with Mathew Ellerton, said.

"He's going for his 10th run this preparation but you wouldn't know it."

Hard Stride is one of 36 entries for the three-year-old sprint (1200m) along with his stablemate Washington Square.

The Street Sense gelding has won twice from 14 starts but banked more than $260,000 for connections.

Zahra said Hard Stride's consistency kept him in contention for Super VOBIS bonuses, which boosted his stakes tally significantly.

"He's won a Werribee maiden and a $100,000 race at Caulfield but he's always been thereabouts and picking up a cheque," he said.

Ellerton and Zahra will start honest galloper Pillar Of Creation in the 1200-metre open handicap for which he is one of 29 nominations.

The Flemington-based duo scratched Pillar Of Creation after he drew badly in last Saturday's Winter Championship heat on his home track.

Pillar Of Creation pleased his trainers with a gallop on Saturday morning.

Mick Price has entered Le Bonsir for the $80,000 race, which will be run over the same course on which the sprinter produced a career-best performance when third to his stablemate Samaready in the Group One Moir Stakes last September.

Wyong trainer Don Robb is likely to run last year's Listed Ramornie Handicap runner-up Big Bonanza in the Moonee Valley race while Canberra sprinter Unanimously is among the entries for the event.

Both are also nominated for the Winter Dash at Randwick.
