As he did a couple of weeks ago, two-year-old Sniper Fire has relegated Brazen Moss to second place at Rosehill.

The pair stepped up from 1350 to 1500 metres on Saturday with Brazen Moss starting the $2.15 favourite to avenge his last-start defeat.

But it wasn't to be with Sniper Fire ($3.40) taking control early and holding off his rival by half a length.

The winner's trainer Chris Waller opted to keep Sniper Fire in Sydney rather than wait for a Listed race at Eagle Farm next week.

"He can earn as much by racing here with the first prize money and the BOBS bonus," Waller said.

"He has a future as a three-year-old. He is a big strong horse by High Chaparral and is a real miler.

"He will have a spell now and get ready for the late spring."

Jockey Jim Cassidy has no doubts Sniper Fire can get even further than 1600 metres, saying he would be effective over 2000 metres next preparation.

Gerald Ryan, the trainer of Brazen Moss, said he would again recommend the colt be gelded after he racked up his fifth second placing from six starts.

Amovatio gave Waller the second leg of race-to-race double when he repeated his performance of a fortnight ago in the 1200m benchmark 75 for three-year-olds.

With apprentice Serg Lisnyy taking three kilograms off his 60kg topweight, Amovatio ($2.60 fav) got through a gap late to beat Encostanati ($4.80) by half a length with the leader Ball Of Muscle ($4.80) a head third.

"It was a good ride by Serg," Waller said.

"We took a gamble with this horse. I had him entered for a 1300 metre race and a 1500 metre race but we decided to keep him to 1200 and put an apprentice on.

"He is a nice horse putting things together now."
