Fastnet Rock relation wins Randwick trial

Monday 19 November 2012, 4:20pm

Expectation based on a famous pedigree page delivered for one horse but not another within 24 hours for close relations of Australia's hottest young stallion.

As champion sire Fastnet Rock's half-brother Olympic Flag laboured to a midfield placing in a provincial race on Sunday, there was better news out of Monday's Randwick barrier trials for followers of his blue blood family.

Crazyonyou won the second of two 800m heats for two-year-olds to set her on a path toward the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast.

The filly is by Encosta de Lago out of Sarasota, a Danehill mare who is a full-sister to Fastnet Rock.

Her trial victory was narrow but it was enough for trainer Anthony Cummings to consider starting the filly's racing career as soon as this weekend.

"She probably goes in as a late nomination for Rosehill on Saturday now and she is also entered for the Magic Millions race at Ballarat on Sunday," Cummings said.

"A lot will depend on how she pulls up because you never know with two-year-olds at this time of the year."

The Magic Millions race at Ballarat will be run in the Queensland direction to give eligible horses experience racing the right-handed way before January's Gold Coast carnival.

Part of a Coolmore draft, Crazyonyou was on Cummings's Magic Millions buying list and he purchased her from the sale ring for $250,000.

"She failed to scope properly after the sale and a few people in her pulled out so she went back Coolmore," Cummings said.

"The upshot is the Coolmore team decided to race her and they gave her to me to train."

A two-year-old fillies race at Rosehill on Saturday attracted only six entries, prompting Cummings to reconsider his options.

Cummings is also revising plans for Villiers contenders Shadows In The Sun and Home On A Wing.

Both horses could have another run before the Group Two race with Shadows In The Sun, an excellent second to Ollie Vollie at Rosehill on Saturday, headed for the Listed Festival Stakes.

Cummings, meanwhile, has sent the last of his spring team to the spelling paddock after Ever The Same returned a below-par blood count and Strike The Stars was displaying the early signs of a virus after his unplaced run in the Eclipse Stakes.
